Is Size Important when Selecting 55+ Home Sites_

Many seniors consider downsizing to smaller homes as they are easier to maintain. Why spend time cleaning and doing maintenance when this is the time to enjoy life? But, some seniors prefer a smaller home and a bigger yard. Many active adult communities try to maintain a balance by providing 55+ seniors with lots that offer outdoor space with lawn and maintenance included. While some of you may not consider this an important factor in buying a home, others will think it essential.

A beautifully landscaped garden adds to the appeal of your home. But, it can be a lot of work. There is raking, trimming, weeding, mulching, and planting, and much more involved in maintaining a garden. If you are worn out from doing all this, you may be happy to move into a senior retirement homes community that offers landscaping maintenance and services. The only problem with this arrangement is you will lose a bit of privacy as your lawn is smaller.

Loss of privacy is common with small home sites. Most seniors find it frustrating to sit at their patio and see their neighbors doing the same. Many builders of retirement homes consider this factor when building outdoor living spaces and include them in secluded parts of the home. However, some 55+ communities do not consider this problem. In these communities, you can have a conversation with your neighbor while sitting at your patio! So, consider the importance of privacy when buying your home.

However, there are active lifestyle communities with larger homesites and sufficient, secluded outdoor living stretch. The downside to this is the majority of homes in these communities are extremely pricey. They also require more maintenance. Plus, sometimes, homes with larger outdoor spaces may not have maintenance and landscaping services. Here, again, you will be stuck with doing the maintenance and landscaping or you may have to pay an exorbitant amount of money to get it done.

If you like a bit of lawn, but are unable to maintain it and would love to buy a home with scenic views, there are a number of communities that offer golf courses and lake views, as well as, wooded areas. In this way, you can have your nature views and not worry about maintenance.
