You may already know that October is Breast Cancer awareness month. Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers that affect women. It is an illness that can occur to any person of any age. Breast cancer is treatable with early detection and timely treatment methods. Sadly though, very few people are aware of breast cancer and its repercussions. They do not know how to identify this condition, and some do not have the means to obtain treatment. Southern Meadow in Delaware recently sponsored the 3rd Annual Monster Miles for a Cause walk to benefit the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition. This was a great day for self fulfillment and feeling on top of the world, as the walking seniors raised much needed money for breast cancer awareness.
The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition is a non-profit organization that helps raise awareness of breast cancer through education and support services and outreach programs. The DBCC ensures that they get through to the community by informing them about the importance of early detection and treatment of breast cancer. All those involved in this organization help newly diagnosed breast cancer patients as well as survivors understand how to live with this disease. In addition, there are various programs that support women during and after treatment and provide access to screening facilities for uninsured women. The DBCC organizes various events to help raise money for their cause. These include fundraisers such as the Five Points Bridal Brunch in Wilmington and others where they hope to raise much needed funds for breast cancer awareness programs.
This year residents of Southern Meadow, the premier Delaware 55+, age-restricted community, extended their generosity to its community by sponsoring the Monster Mile for a Cause Walk. The developer, Investors Realty, also showed they care about their community by donating $1,000 and $2,000 to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition with the purchase of any home in Southern Meadow, during the month of October. Furthermore, they invited the good people of Delaware and its surrounding states to walk with them on the 20th of October to benefit the DBCC of Delaware. All those interested in walking with them received a free t-shirt, if they registered before the 1st of October. A star on their wall and a small gift of appreciated was also presented to all those who donated $10 for this cause. The walk was a great success in heightening the breast cancer awareness levels and it also helped DBCC collect $2060 in terms of monetary contributions. Southern Meadow aims at donating $5,000 to DBCC. Those interested in donating to the cause, and enriching the lives of others, can still do so by visiting https://www.i-realty.com/southernmeadow/breast_cancer_awareness_month.html and donating as much as they can afford to.
