Illinois

Are you considering a move to Illinois?  Then, you should have some basic information about the 5th most populated State in the US.  Before you make a decision on the State that you are relocating to, it is best that you delve into various considerations such as geography, economy, places of interests and anything else of use…  After all, relocation at the age of 55+ is not as easy to ‘up sticks’ as it may have been in your younger years.  It is more of a total uprooting, and hence, you must love the place you move into.  So, if you have been considering Illinois among few other shortlisted choices, here are some reasons why Illinois may prove to be the perfect move.

A Little Bit about Illinois

Illinois is bordered by Wisconsin, Indiana, Kentucky and the Mississippi River.  It is a state that was once nicknamed the “Prairie State” because of the wide expanse of treeless plains covered with tall grass.  Presently, there is very little of the Prairie State covered with tall prairie grass.  It is now a hub for business and travel with many transportation routes including railroads, highways, air routes, and waterways.  The main airport of Illinois, O’Hare International, is considered the world’s busiest airport.  Illinois is also a leading agricultural, urban and manufacturing state.  Chicago, (the “windy city”) is Illinois’ largest city and is a key shipping center.  Agriculture is one of the main sources of income for Illinois because of its rich, fertile soil.  Approximately 50 varieties of crops are grown in the state and livestock is raised in the remaining prairies.  Another great source of income, for Illinois, is through urban industrial centers.  Illinois has an extremely temperate climate.  Cold, snowy winters and hot, wet summers are the norms in this state.

Why you should Move to Illinois

A move to Illinois is not such a bad idea, considering the number of things that you can do to keep yourself occupied.  For example, if you are in Chicago, you should not miss seeing the Field Museum of Natural History.  This is considered one of the best natural history museums, and here you will get to see the most famous exhibit, “Sue”, the largest Tyrannosaurus Rex discovered.  If in Springfield, you can visit Lincoln’s Tomb, although it is still a mystery as to who is buried there!  Take time to visit the Japanese Gardens in Rockford one day.  It is a beautiful 10-acre Japanese garden complete with waterfalls, rock formations, and streams and beautifully constructed winding lanes.  A serene, memorable day is ensured at the Japanese Gardens.  Take a day or two or even three, to experience the world’s best shopping down the “Magnificent Mile” of Michigan Avenue where the word “shopping” is given a whole new meaning.

If you are a lover of water and nature, you should visit the Chain O’ Lakes State Park.  You can enjoy fishing, boating, and canoeing on the waterways and use the miles and miles of trails for biking and hiking.  Other outdoor destinations include Galena, Starved Rock State Park, and Rock Island Trail State Park.  There are over 700 golf courses in Illinois.  Anyone of these golf courses can be your next destination to pursue your passion and perfect your swing.
