New Hampshire

New Hampshire is a State definitely worth a second look if you are now considering all of the possible States to start your new life at 55+.  Now that your kids have gone off on their own, you will find that a new chapter has dawned in your life.  With retirement, you will definitely feel the difference between an Empty Nesters way of life vs. what it used to be before.  This is why it will certainly be the right time to explore a new State and settle down in a place that will let you pursue now the things you love to do ….but never had the time to do before.  New Hampshire, also known as the “Granite State”, is located in the northeastern part of the United States.  Moving to New Hampshire could be an exhilarating and thrilling experience for you.  Let us tell you why.

A Little Bit about New Hampshire

One of the most important things to consider when considering a new home state is the weather.  Winters are quite long in this State, while summers are short and cool.  Due to the long winters, New Hampshire has more winter sports and recreation to offer you than summer events.  If you are interested in skiing or snowmobiling down some of the largest ski mountains on the east coast, this is the State to consider.  You should know, the highest peak in the northeast, Mount Washington, is located here.  There are also more than 1,300 lakes and ponds dotted in various parts of the State.  The largest lake in New Hampshire is Lake Winnipesauke.  The economy in New Hampshire is fueled mainly by industries, although agricultural production, such as dairy products, cattle, and nursery stock, as well as apples and eggs also contribute towards its growth.  New Hampshire is one of the States that record the lowest consumption of energy.  The good news on the economic front is that NH has no general sales tax or personal State income tax.

What you can do in New Hampshire

Now that you know a little bit about this awesome State, let us tell you some great activities that you can consider in New Hampshire.  New Hampshire is abundant in forest life.  You will find a plethora of flora and fauna and a chance to explore nature to the fullest.  Great trees include elm, birch, maple, and pine.  There are also several varieties of extremely rare orchids.  If you are interested in nature and animal life, there are several wildlife sanctuaries that let you go bird watching and camping.  If you are lucky, you can catch a glimpse of the majestic, rare, and endangered bald eagle at Adams Point in Durham.  Consider fishing, for a relaxing day, at many of the lakes dotted around in New Hampshire – if that is your favorite pastime. The performing arts are extremely popular in New Hampshire.  Hopkins Center at Dartmouth College features musical events throughout the year.  Classical and modern plays can be enjoyed at the Theater by the Sea at Portsmouth.  Every year, during the summer, you can experience a summer festival sponsored by the New Hampshire Music Festival in Center Harbor.

As we mentioned before, winter sports are extremely popular in New Hampshire.  So, get your ski gear ready when the winter comes around the corner.  Cross country skiing is a great adventure and can be enjoyed at Waterville Valley.  Ice skating is extremely good at the Indoor Ice Arena in Waterville Valley too.
