Your Age should not Limit your 55Plus Active Lifestyle and Hamper your Activities

Some make the mistake of thinking that they are over the hill when you enter their 40s. But what happens when you enter your 50s and 60s? Have you crossed the hill and climbed a mountain? The aging process can be either received with happiness and contentment or with sadness and depression. When you think about it, age is just a number. It is how you feel as you age that really gets you down. If you are entering the mid-40s or 50s or even the 60s, keep in mind, how you feel about your age is all in the way you look at it. If you choose to look at it as a carefree, exciting second youth, sans all the burdens of future expectations and family responsibilities, then, this is going to be one of the best phases in your life!

Keeping your mind in a youthful state and the body in an active state is the key to aging properly. Here are a few points to note, if you would like to age with grace and remain young at heart.

Consider Companionship – All of us need friends to confide in and offer us advice on various aspects of life. A full and happy life cannot be lived alone. We all need the companionship of some form to get through the days or weeks or months. Keeping things bottled up inside will not help you to age with grace, plus it will give you more wrinkles! Hang out with friends, chat with friends and family and make time for at least one or two coffee “chats” a week. Reminiscing about “the good old days” and laughing with your friends will help you stay young at heart. If you are living in isolation, consider relocating to an active adult community or a 55Plus rental community.

Don’t Act your Age – Many people, once they pass their 40’s and 50s, start behaving and dressing in a different way because they are now “old”. We do not have to change our lives and do things differently just because we are no longer spring chickens. So, wear a bikini, grow your hair or get a new haircut and dress any way you want. Enjoy life the same way you did in your 20s and 30s. This will help you to stay young.

Get Rid of Stress – Stress is the worst thing to make you feel not old, but ancient. Stress can give you worry lines that become permanent fixtures on your face. Don’t stress over things that are beyond your control. Consider yoga or meditation to relax your mind. Go for long walks on the beach or hiking.

Party! – One of the best ways to enjoy life to the fullest, and keep feeling young at heart, is to party. Celebrate and welcome each birthday. Have a party and invite all your friends. Make sure they are friends of all ages. While nutrition, diet control and all else are essential daily routines, when you are parting, do let go a bit and eat your cake, drink a bit of tequila or wine and play some loud music and dance the night away. Simply, live the way you lived when you were young!

Aging, and the feelings associated with aging, are all in your mind. Never think you are too old to do this and that. Ignore people who say you are. You can do just about anything at 40 or 50 or 60 as you did in your 20s as long as it is not bungee jumping or sky diving! We are just cautioning you to give a small thought to the physical limitations which are a bit beyond being fixed by a positive attitude. Enjoy life, especially when you are cruising along with the 50s onward. Stay tuned to ActiveAdultLiving.com blog for more news.
