Are you Ready for the Alberta 55 Plus Games?

55+ Albertans have a great event to look forward to this summer. This is the Alberta 55 Plus Summer Games. The Alberta’s premier multi-sport and cultural event brings many benefits to those taking part in the event. Here is your chance to test out your physical skills and pursue social, intellectual and creative abilities through friendly competition and participation. If you are from Alberta, Canada, include the Alberta 55 Plus Summer Games in your summer plans. Take part in this wonderful event and share some of life’s greatest experiences with your friends and fellow competitors.

About the Alberta Summer Games

The Alberta Summer Games is hosted by Barrhead and Westlock communities and is made possible through various sponsors and donations. This exciting event will be held through the 25th to 28th of July, 2013. All participants, for this event, are provided with accommodation, meals, transportation to and from the venues, zone identification and a sport bag. If interested in taking part in these games, you have to be over the age of 55 as at 31st December 2012. You should also be members of Alberta 55 Plus. You will be able to take part in these games only if you qualify from the zone playoffs, which are held one to three months before the actual Games. This year’s zone playoffs are scheduled for the 1st of April to June 10th 2013. So, get ready and don’t be late.

Activities for the Alberta 55 Plus Summer Games

There are a myriad of activities to take part in. Each activity is especially suited to the 55+ active adult. These include
• Alpine Skiing
• Athletics
• Badminton
• Bocce
• 5 Pin Bowling
• Contract Bridge
• Duplicate Bridge
• Carpet Bowling
• Cribbage
• Cycling
• Darts
• Floor Curling
• Floor Shuffleboard
• Golf
• Hockey
• Pool – 8 Ball
• Snooker
• Scrabble
• Swimming
• Slow-Pitch
• Table Shuffle Board
• Tennis

Cultural competitions, such as, arts and crafts and creative writing is also available if you do not wish to take part in the above activities.

If by any chance you cannot take part in the Alberta 55 Plus Summer Games, you can consider the upcoming Alberta 55 Plus Winter Games which are held on the 13th to 16th of February 2013. This event is held in Calgary and, this year, it coincides with the 25th anniversary of the Calgary ’88 Olympic Games. If you missed your chance to qualify for this event, you can always consider cheering for your friends and fellow competitors at both Canada Olympic Park and the Calgary Winter Club.

The Alberta 55 Plus Games is an event especially organized to promote health and awareness to seniors.  Therefore, you should do your part and ensure that you either take part in these games or become an avid supporter.  This is a great event to meet new people and form new friendships.  So, if you are wondering what you will do during the summer, this year, cross off the 25th to the 28th of July and take part in the Alberta 55 PlusSummer Games.
